Sunday School: Growing in Faith & Our Love for God!

At CUMC kids can continue to grow in their faith and love for God!

We believe that at Community United Methodist Church, each family should be able to choose the appropriate learning venue for their child.   There are three different choices available for children:

♥  Two Sunday Church School learning times on Sundays, one during the 9 o'clock service, and the other at 11.
♥  Wednesday evening community dinner followed by discovery classes,
♥  Or, worshiping together as a family.

Every Sunday morning families have the option of choosing between two Sunday Church Schools:  One at 9:10 am and another at 11:10 a.m.  Children begin worship with their family and then are dismissed to Sunday School.    Your child/children also has/have the choice of staying with parent/s to worship as a family at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. each Sunday.

For the 2014-2015 school year, CUMC is using a hands-on curriculum through Group Publishing.  The curriculum is geared towards teaching children in the style that Jesus taught his disciples-Using everyday objects to help ideas "stick" in our minds, and strengthen our faith by making real life connections.  Below is a short video clip of the curriculum that will hopefully give you a better understanding of how the teachers at CUMC are trying to help your children grow in their faith, as well as their love for God.

Our "tween" group is using a separate curriculum that is a bit more age-appropriate, but also helps them connect better with their faith in God.  The curriculum that is used for our 5th and 6th graders is called "Connect".  Below there is a short clip that helps demonstrate how this curriculum can help "connect" our tweens.

Other ways that your child can be involved at CUMC:
Acolyting
  • Children second grade and older are invited to be a part of worship as an acolyte.
  • Acolytes light the worship candles to represent the Holy Spirit in our midst.
  • Acolyte training is available and is a collaboration with Children’s Ministries and Hospitality.
  • Children help light the worship candles as a way to participate as a worship leader.

Children's Time

Each worship service contains a special “Children's Time” that provides a weekly focus in sync with the morning message.

Children are led to the Christian Education learning space downstairs where they continue worshipping God with their friends and teachers!

Fellowship for All!

A fellowship time to meet and greet other members of the church is scheduled from 10:15 –11:00 a.m.  Here at CUMC, we call this "Sip N Chatter!"  Meet other families who love and are following God with joy and celebration.  Children will join families for Sip N Chatter after parents stop in to lead their children upstairs. We welcome all families to join us in Fellowship Hall!

2014 Christmas Pageant

Our Christmas Pageant will be Sunday, December 7th for BOTH the 9 o'clock AND the 11 o'clock services. If you and your family typically attend the 11 o'clock service, we ask that you make an exception for the Christmas Pageant, and be here for both services.  There will be a party for the children in between services.

Pre-School through fourth graders will be assigned songs that they will be singing together, according to their age groups. They will have an opportunity to practice their songs during Sunday school each week leading up to the pageant.  Fifth graders through high school seniors will have an opportunity to perform, if they so choose, and will be responsible for practicing their pieces on their own.

Here are the song choices according to each group:

Pre-School and Kindergarteners- "Silent Night" (Bells) and "Away in a Manger"

"Away in a Manger" WILL ONLY be the first verse of the song.

First and Second Graders- "Come On, Ring Those Bells" (Bells) and "Go Tell it on the Mountain"

"Go Tell it on the Mountain"

Third and Fourth Graders-  "Deck the Halls" and "Rejoice!"

"Deck the Halls"
